UNDERFOOT
TIMEFRAME

The proposed project is estimated to take approximately three months to complete, including the research, live performance and filming, and installation at the archive gallery.

The timeframe below has been developed in alignment with Hunter's Model of Influence (2015: 36), which details the relationship between the site and the choreographic, creative process. The model follows the cyclical process from interaction with the site to the final performance and audience engagement (Hunter, 2015: 36-37), and allows for consideration of how the project is engaging with intangible heritage at each stage.
UNDERFOOT - MODEL OF INFLUENCE
The original model shows a process to product through line of influence (Hunter, 2015: 36). Here, each factor is separated out in order for a more detailed timeframe in relation to the creation and performance of Underfoot.

INFLUENCING FACTORS

Research 2 Weeks Prior to the Devising Process.
Throughout the Devising Process
Human Elements: personal construction at the site; memory of the site; narratives and stories; connecting the site with local community; lived experience.
Non-Human Elements: environment and surrounding landscape; weather conditions and time of day; structure of the hillfort; intangible heritage and evidence of archaeological factors.

DEVISING PROCESS

4-5 Weeks
Process of choreographing movement material using research gained from the influencing factors, improvisational explorations at the site, and workshops with the local community.
Consideration of how to present a 'new space' via the filmed performance that brings together intangible heritage alongside the lived experience, memories and narratives, that also relates to the existing archive of the site.

SPACE

Research 2 Weeks Prior to the Devising Process.
Throughout the Devising Process

Interpreting the human and non-human elements at the site.
Embodying these intertwined elements through improvisational tasks and construction of movement material.
Constructing movement at the site to provide context for the work as a performance of heritage.

SITE-SPECIFIC PERFORMANCE

Filming of Performance: 1-3 Days
Editing Process: 2-3 Weeks
Filming the performance at the site, with consideration of time of day, season, weather conditions, and any other influencing factors.
Mediation brings a new way of presenting the site affected by interpretation and perception. The film becomes an animated archive of the site itself.
The audience interaction and how the film is presented at the archive gallery is considered throughout the editing process.

CHOREOGRAPHER/
PERFORMER CONCERNS

Throughout the Devising Process and Performance, including Filming and Mediation
Consideration of artistic and aesthetic concerns to choreograph a performance that contemplates intangible heritage of the site in a empathetic, responsive view of the local community.
Perception and interpretation are considered in knowledge gained from workshops with the local community.

AUDIENCE READING

Installation at the Archive Gallery
Installing the film into the existing archive gallery is sympathetic towards existing work already presented, and with consideration of audience reading and interpretation of the film.
Consideration of what is presented alongside the film to clarify the performance's context alongside an existing archive: description of the work, research documents, photographs, archive work gathered through community workshops.
