UNDERFOOT: GALLERY OF RESEARCH IMAGES
The photos below are shown to help illustrate ideas of the proposed project as outlined in the proposal and framing statement. They were taken during a day of dance research exploration at the site.

BROUGH LAW HILLFORT
Inside the circular ring of stones, this image shows the exact location of where the site-specific performance would take place. The circling shape provides a clear performance space for the work.

STONES OF ARCHAEOLOGICAL/CHOREOGRAPHIC INTEREST
The Breamish Valley Archaeology Exhibition displays research and findings on the importance of the stones and rock found in Ingram from an archaeological perspective. The stones provide choreographic interest for the project to explore their place in the geography of the land; their part in the heritage of the site; the significance of their structure; and their weathering over time, connecting past to present.

EXPLORING SCULPTURAL ELEMENTS OF THE SITE
Using the stones as stimulus to explore the shapes, structures, and textures of the hillfort, with consideration of how they were built up by humans to signify conquest and wealth, or as a place of ritual and ceremony.

BECOMING A PART OF THE LANDSCAPE
Using stillness and sensory movement to pay attention to the site, embodying the site's qualities, and focusing on intertwining the human with the non-human elements underneath and around the body.

THE SIGNIFICANCE OF RITUAL AT THE SITE
Exploring the circular, spiralling structure of the hillfort through running, repetition, and questioning what a ritualistic act could look like at the site.

ARCHIVE GALLERY SPACE
This is one area of the Breamish Valley Archaeology Exhibition, which includes an historic timeline of the landscape, maps, books, and artefacts, including detail of the hillfort trail. The filmed performance will be shown here alongside a contextualisation of the project.
